This 'History' explores the history of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Macedonians, and Grecians. An impressive endeavour, exploring the vast history of Africa during the ancient times, a subject which had not previously been greatly explored by European authors.
This once famous historical study has been identified in recent times as uncritical and somewhat inaccurate, but a nonetheless important work as instructed numerous generations in ancient history
In a full calf binding. Externally, rubbed. Light bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spines. Rubbing has resulted in a small amount of loss of leather to the boards.
Spine labels are age-toned, with some small chips. Small library label to the head of the spines, worn. Small cracks to the joints of Volume III, V, and VIII, and to the head of the rear joint of Volume VI. Front joint and hinge of Volumes I, II, IV, VI, and VII are starting but firm, as is the rear joint and hinge of Volume IX. Front joint and hinge of Volume IX are tender. Rear hinge of Volume II starting, as is the front hinge of Volume VIII. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots.
EXTREMELY RARE. The maps and copper engravings are well-preserved and in excellent condition.
